Be the one who will keep someone’s hope alive

Imagine being forced to flee your home and everything you know because of war and violence. Imagine having to start over in a new country with nothing but the clothes on your back. This is the reality for many refugees who have escaped the conflict in Ukraine and sought safety in the United States. But there is a way you can help them. By supporting the Free Resource Center, you can make a difference in the lives of these people and give them hope for a better future.
The Free Resource Center is an aid project launched by the Spokane Slavic Association to gather resources for the Ukrainian Closet in order to help refugees in need. Within this project, we provide clothing, help filling out documents, and other resources to refugees so they can start over in life. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to live with dignity and hope. And with your help, we can make this possible.

What is Ukrainian Closet

Ukrainian Closet is a humanitarian aid project run by Spokane Slavic Association. It serves as a resource center to Ukrainian refugees and immigrants in Spokane and nearby areas where refugees can access information, referrals, legal assistance and social support. Our aim is to help Ukrainian refugees with their resettlement process.
The founder of Ukrainian Closet is Zhanna Oberemok; she founded it from her roller rink in Spokane Valley. Our work began in March 2022, when the first refugee families started arriving, and since then, we have served thousands of refugees.

Some of the services we offer include:

Who benefit from our help

Due to the political situation, most of our visitors are Ukrainian refugees who have fled their homeland. We understand their challenges and needs, and we offer them support and guidance. We help them find housing, education programs, health care assistance, and more.
But we are open to everyone who needs our assistance. No matter where someone is coming from, they are welcome at our center. We are a community of compassion and solidarity. And you can be a part of this community.

What we have done so far for people

While we focus mainly on our work locally, we also work on other projects. One of them is a free clothing store project in Kharkiv, Ukraine that receives financial assistance and guidance from Spokane. Another one is an orphanage that was relocated to Poland and has a team of volunteers serving the children. There are also resource fairs for refugees and countless hours devoted to assisting them with their paperwork and document processes.
