Who we are
Spokane Slavic Association (SSA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Spokane and surrounding communities.
What began as a grassroots effort to provide clothing and essential items to families in need has grown into a multifaceted community organization connecting people with resources, employment opportunities, business support, youth and family activities, and community engagement.

Ukrainian Closet was the first program of Spokane Slavic Association.
It began as a grassroots effort to provide clothing and essential items to people in need. But it quickly became something more — a place where community members could receive assistance, donate, volunteer, connect with others, and help their neighbors.
As the needs of the community changed, SSA grew with them. The experience and relationships developed through Ukrainian Closet helped lay the foundation for what is now the International Resource Center and for SSA's broader approach to community support.
Today, SSA works across five strategic areas, connecting immediate assistance with opportunities in employment, entrepreneurship, youth and family engagement, and community participation.

No. SSA has deep roots in Spokane's Slavic community, but our services, programs, and opportunities are open to everyone, subject to the eligibility requirements of individual programs or funding sources.
SSA's work includes the International Resource Center, resource navigation, translation and interpretation, notary services, workforce assistance, employment readiness, business development, youth and family programs, community information, events, outreach, and other community initiatives. Available services may change as programs, funding, and community needs evolve.
The International Resource Center is part of SSA's International Resource Center & Community Services pillar and serves as an important entry point into the organization. The Center helps connect community members with clothing, household resources, food resources when available, resource navigation, referrals, and other forms of community assistance. When additional needs are identified, individuals may also be connected with other SSA services and programs.
Yes. SSA provides language and document-related services that may include translation, interpretation, notary public services, and basic document assistance. Depending on the service and available funding, services may be free, subsidized, grant-funded, or offered for a fee. SSA does not provide legal, immigration, tax, medical, financial, or other regulated professional advice unless the service is provided by an appropriately qualified professional.
SSA accepts selected donations through the International Resource Center. Accepted items and current donation needs may vary depending on available space and community demand.
Businesses can engage with SSA in many ways, including joining the Business Directory, participating in business events, becoming an employer partner, sponsoring SSA programs or events, donating goods or services, and supporting community initiatives.
SSA offers volunteer opportunities across different programs, events, community initiatives, and operational activities. Opportunities vary throughout the year based on current organizational and community needs.

These are the hours for visiting in person to donate or receive clothing, household, and kitchen items. SSA's general office hours are Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
