Family & Community Activities

Experiences Are Better Together.

Families need more than services.

They also need opportunities to spend meaningful time together, discover new places, participate in activities, meet other families, and create positive memories.

SSA's Family & Community Activities creates opportunities for families and community members to connect through recreation, exploration, celebrations, and shared experiences.

Creating Experiences Together

Activities may include:

Activities change throughout the year based on season, community interest, partnerships, funding, and available resources.

Family Recreation

Recreation gives families an opportunity to step outside everyday routines and simply spend time together.

SSA may organize or partner on activities such as roller skating, outdoor recreation, parks and nature activities, family games, community attractions, seasonal activities, and other recreational experiences.

Some events may be designed specifically for families, while others may bring together participants from across the broader community.

Explore the Community

People can live in a region without having many opportunities to experience what it offers.

Community outings can introduce families to parks, cultural institutions, recreational facilities, educational destinations, and other places throughout Spokane and the surrounding region.

For newcomers especially, these experiences can also make an unfamiliar community begin to feel more familiar.

Celebrating Together

Community celebrations create opportunities for people from different backgrounds and generations to come together.

SSA may organize or participate in seasonal celebrations, cultural events, family gatherings, community festivals, special activities, and holiday events.

These gatherings create opportunities to preserve traditions while also developing new shared experiences.

Building Relationships Between Families

A family event can do more than provide entertainment.

Parents meet other parents.

Children make friends.

People discover organizations and resources.

Newcomers meet established community members.

Volunteers find new ways to contribute.

Those relationships help turn individual activities into a stronger community.

Activities through partnership

Activities Through Partnership

Many of SSA's family experiences are possible because community organizations and businesses open their doors, provide facilities, share expertise, sponsor activities, or collaborate with us.

SSA welcomes partnerships with

  • Recreational facilities
  • Cultural organizations
  • Parks and outdoor organizations
  • Museums and educational institutions
  • Businesses
  • Nonprofits
  • Community organizations
  • Sponsors

Make Time for Something New.

Sometimes strengthening a family or community begins with something simple: going somewhere new, trying something together, meeting another family, creating a memory. SSA creates opportunities for those moments to happen.
